Here is Jippe’s thoughts on his 13 Peaks experience 😎

“For the Two Oceans marathon, I picked up a magazine with tips for my first ultra. While flipping through it, I landed on a page about the 13 Peaks Challenge by Ryan Sandes. I bought his book and was instantly sold. That same evening, together with two new international friends from the USA and the UK, we looked at two days on which we could complete the challenge. (We had to do It quickly since Comrades was the focus for Patrick and Ironman 70.3 Durban was my goal this summer)
It all started on April 13 at 6 a.m. in Stellenbosch, from where we took a taxi to Signal Hill and began Day 1. Up to Little Lion’s Head gave us a beautiful start, with the goal of completing the rest of the challenge in the next day. After all, we had already run 56 km in one day during the Two Oceans, so this should be doable, right?
On April 25, at 5:30 a.m., we left Stellenbosch to start the with Suthers peak. We eventually had to stop at Silvermine 2 because we ran out of water, unaware that just a few days later, the entire park would go up in flames… That was also the moment we decided to turn it into a multi-day challenge and enjoy the stunning views of Cape Town.

After two more days, we finally completed the challenge in 35 hours and 50 minutes. I gained a friendship, a beautiful adventure, and views I’ll never forget. I got a taste of trail running, and the people I met along the way made the adventure complete. Especially a man with a one-wheeled mountain bike and a mountaineer with suggestions for even more beautiful hikes around Cape Town.
Three friends that met in Stellenbosch, Patrick from the USA, Matthew from the UK, and I from the Netherlands, have deep respect for anyone who takes on this challenge, and even more so for Ryan Sandes, who completes it in just 13 hours!

Thanks, Ryan, for sharing this amazing adventure with us!”

Distance: 118km
Time:35,5 hours
Most beautiful peak: Suther Peak

Well done guys!
A question we have been getting asked a lot lately A question we have been getting asked a lot lately… How do I do 13 Peaks?

It is a personal challenge so you can start it at anytime and take as long as you like to complete the challenge. The website has the basic rules i.e. tag the peaks in order, do them on foot, etc. You can download a GPX file of the recommended route off the 13 Peaks website. Once you complete the challenge please log your time and details on the “wall of honour” page on the 13 Peaks website and we will send you badge collection details. There are also some trucker caps available for purchase - link in 13 Peaks insta bio.

Yeeeaaw enjoy! Adventure is out there…☀️⛰️🙌🏽

A huge congratulations to Charlene Oosthuizen on c A huge congratulations to Charlene Oosthuizen on completing her 13 Peaks journey. Thanks for sharing your inspiring story with us 🙌🏽 Here are a few words from Charlene:

“As I reflect on my journey over the 13 Peaks, I can only be grateful. Doing this challenge has given me so much more than some of the most beautiful views around Cape Town. I have grown in confidence and faced some of my fears a few times. Scrambling and sheer drops are not my forte, but a little unavoidable on this route and getting to the beacons. Completing this challenge has literally been a community project, when I recollect all the individuals that guided, supported and motivated me along the various legs.“

Well done!! 😎
High fives to @lukefouche and @mosh_hur for comple High fives to @lukefouche and @mosh_hur for completing a two day 13 Peaks! Yeeeaw you legends 🙌🏽 This is what Luke had to say:

“We started on Saturday afternoon and finished at 5.30pm on Sunday, with a total time of 26hr23min.

Cape Town threw everything at us during our 13 Peaks attempt. Earth, Wind, & Fire along route as we had to make some adjustments after Constantia Nek and safely navigate our way back to Signal Hill to complete an adventure we’ll never forget! We had such epic support from friends and family that made it that much better.

We have huge respect and appreciation for the fire services teams that are tirelessly protecting our beautiful mountain.”

“Super proud of this group.
This challenge was well outside most of this group’s comfort zone. They had some tough days, stormy days, hot days, long days.
But they kept on going and watching them finish was a real joy.
This challenge definitely made them stronger.
Job well done.”
